IDIS: Responsible for CAF’s action in Latin America
Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to private social investment and headquartered in the UK. Its objective is to increase and strengthen private social investment, influence public authorities in favor of social investment and help donors identify and support social causes, offering a wide range of services for individual and corporate donors and nonprofit organizations.
CAF dates back to 1924, when the United Kingdom’s National Council for Social Services decided to create a Charities Department to foster more efficient donations. In 1974, it changed to its current operating format as a foundation, after becoming consolidated with an organization that successfully distributed large amounts of resources for beneficent purposes. Since then, CAF has acted independently of the government, as a civil society organization.
Today, CAF manages more than 1 billion pounds sterling per year (3,69 billion reals or 1,73 billion dollars), which belong to donors and organizations, dealing with over 350 thousand individuals in the UK. Internationally, it has become consolidated as one of the largest private social investment organizations in Europe, with six offices spread around this and other regions of the world.
IDIS is responsible for CAF’s action in Latin America and part of its worldwide network. Signed in late 2005, this partnership is a decision that is part of CAF’s new global strategy. The two organizations are committed to acting jointly in the area of private social investment.
