Ivete Sangalo Institute

Challenge

With both national and international recognition, Ivete Sangalo is one of Brazil’s most prominent public figures, influencing and engaging audiences across generations.

In 2017, she founded the Ivete Sangalo Institute (IIS) with the mission of directing efforts and resources toward promoting health, education, and citizenship for children and adolescents in situations of vulnerability throughout Brazil. In 2024, marking 30 years of her career, the artist sought support from IDIS to structure her Private Social Investment (ISP), aiming to bring greater coherence between the Institute’s mission and its intended impact, strengthen its reach, and enhance its fundraising capacity.

Solution

The project began with a detailed diagnostic assessment of the Institute’s history, accompanied by a benchmarking study of philanthropic vehicles created by high-profile individuals in sports and culture, both in Brazil and internationally, across different levels of maturity in their private social investment strategies.

Next, IDIS conducted a Strategic Reflection process, informed by interviews with individuals involved in the Institute’s founding, as well as desk research on issues affecting children in Brazil. Finally, an Action Plan was developed to operationalize the defined strategic guidelines, outlining the steps required to consolidate the organization’s Private Social Investment and achieve its objectives.

Results

The work resulted in the definition of the Institute’s areas of focus, grounded in the artist’s philanthropic goals and centered on the protection and advancement of rights for children and adolescents across Brazil, with special attention to Bahia, her home state.

Processes were established for mapping, selecting, and monitoring grantee organizations. In addition, a governance model and decision-making structure were designed to address the unique requirements of an organization linked to a public figure. The project also identified potential strategies and guiding principles for resource mobilization.

“The Institute was born out of my desire and responsibility to give back to society a part of what I have achieved, helping transform realities and offering hope to those who need it”, the singer shared in a statement for the Brazilian Philanthropy Forum 2025.
