The Promoting Philanthropy Endowment (FFF), an IDIS initiative aimed at strengthening strategic philanthropy and the culture of giving in Brazil, closed 2025 with significant results. In its second year of operation, the Endowment reached BRL 9.9 million in assets, an increase of 39.7% over the previous year, driven by contributions from 146 donors and the matching mechanism established through philanthropist MacKenzie Scott’s gift to IDIS.
In 2025, the FFF allocated BRL 265,000 to strategic initiatives across three areas: advocacy, knowledge production, and stakeholder engagement. The resources supported efforts to strengthen the institutional environment for philanthropy in Brazil, produce evidence and knowledge, and mobilize stakeholders across the sector.
Initiatives supported by the Endowment included:
- the Brazilian Endowment Coalition, which brings together more than 100 organizations advocating for a more favorable regulatory environment for endowments in Brazil;
- Brazil Giving Research 2024, the country’s leading study on individual giving behavior;
- the study Pathways to Broader and More Strategic Family Philanthropy in Brazil;
- the Brazilian Philanthropy Forum 2025;
- support for the transition of Discover Your Cause, a platform that helps individuals connect with social causes, to Benfeitoria;
- Philanthropy Day at COP30, bringing philanthropy into discussions on the global climate agenda; and
- support for the Movement for a Culture of Giving, a Brazilian network dedicated to strengthening the culture of giving in the country.
A Permanent Endowment to Strengthen Philanthropy
The FFF was established as an endowment, providing a sustainable, long-term source of funding for initiatives that strengthen Brazil’s philanthropic ecosystem. Under this model, only real investment returns—those generated above inflation—can be used, preserving the Endowment’s principal over time.
In 2025, the Endowment generated BRL 1.15 million in real investment returns, which will be available for investment throughout 2026, ensuring the continuity of supported initiatives and expanding their potential impact.
Another development during the year was the expansion of contribution options. IDIS introduced the possibility of making a donation when registering for its institutional events, resulting in 121 new gifts throughout 2025.
Next Steps
The Endowment’s fundraising campaign remains active. The goal is to reach BRL 15 million in assets by the end of 2026 and BRL 25 million by 2029, expanding the FFF’s capacity to support strategic initiatives that advance philanthropy and the culture of giving in Brazil.
There is still BRL 2.9 million in matching funds available, meaning that new contributions to the Endowment can be matched through the mechanism established with MacKenzie Scott’s gift to IDIS. This represents an opportunity for donors to amplify the value of their contributions and help grow the Endowment’s long-term capacity to strengthen philanthropy in Brazil.
Every gift helps build a lasting endowment capable of generating resources for initiatives that drive social transformation and contribute to reducing inequalities in Brazil.
